The 1-4 offense tends to “flatten” the defense, and with the empty space under the basket, is ideal for back-cuts to the hoop, especially from the wing. In fact, when we are on defense and see this set, we expect underneath cuts. This offense also is effective against teams that over-play (deny) the pass to the wing (which makes them more vulnerable to the back-cut).

You can imagine some simple things, like O1 passing to a high post player, and then the wings O3 and O2 back-cutting to the hoop for the pass from the high post. Or the pass could go to a wing, and the near post screens away for the opposite post, who then cuts to the hoop for the pass from the wing.

1-4 Stack, Post-Point Pick ‘n Roll, “41″

This play uses a simple high post screen for the point guard, and then the seal and roll by the screener . The same side wing (O2) slides deep into the corner to clear his/her defender out. This makes the wing O2 available for a “kick-out” pass to the corner for the outside shot (3-point shot).

High-Post Pick-and-Roll, “45″

This is a simple high post pick and roll play where the pass goes to the player rolling off the screen. O1 is at the point, O2, O3,O4 and O5 stack across, at the free-throw line extended .

O1 calls the play and starts to dribble to the right to clear a passing lane. A jab step to the right or a pass fake to the right might work as well. Or O1 could pass to O2, and O2 to can make the pass inside. O4 sets a pick for O5 and seals the X5 defender .

O5 cuts around the pick. O4’s defender (X4) will probably switch and go with O5 on the cut. O5 takes the X4 defender with him to the baseline (out of the way and out of the paint). O4 now has inside position on the X5 defender and cuts to the hoop, for the lob pass from O1.

Congratulations. Give yourself a couple of seconds to pat yourself on the back (3 times)

Go ahead. Do it. No one’s watching.

“Rali, Why Should I pat myself on the back 3 times?”

That’s easy… by reading this article you’ve just placed yourself in the top 10 % of all basketball players in the world who actively search for tips, tactics, knowledge and expertise on how to improve one’s basketball skills and produce better “on the court” results.

I know reading an article doesn’t seem like much, but it shows commitment, desire, and interest in improving your game and becoming the basketballer you know you can be. (Very few ballers show this and have this kind of mental attitude)

Think about it, on any given basketball team how many players have personal trainers/coaches? How many have some basketball improvement DVD’S or books at their home? How many players have attended basketball camps and clinics to learn game-changing basketball secrets?

It’s 10%. That’s it. I know this because I’ve done the research. I’ve owned a basketball transforming company for 6 years and those are the numbers. You’re now in that top 10% of the most committed, determined, and unique basketball players in the world. And that’s why you should give yourself a pat on the back.

So let’s get rolling with the secrets and tactics I’ve used to help non-confident ballers transform their game, shatter their fears, and easily develop unstoppable All-Star basketball confidence.

In this article, I’m going to show you 2 things:

First, the real reason behind your lack of self-confidence, what’s causing you to hold yourself back from shooting the ball or making a play, and the mental reason why you’re afraid of making mistakes out on the court.

And

Second, How you can easily develop unstoppable basketball confidence so you can step out on the court and produce the basketball results you’ve been picturing in your head (dominate the game, perform all-star plays, scoring 20 PPG or more, and wink at the cute cheerleader on the sideline with style =)

Self confidence in your soul, is equivalent to gas in your car, without it you go nowhere. Lack of self-confidence will get you on the bench or even worse, in the stands. It’s vitally important you know these secrets so you can build your self-confidence to that of an all-star.
Are you ready to inject a shot of “mental confidence’ into your game and life?

Let’s go!

So you’ve come to the realization that you’re not confident out on the basketball court? That’s a sour feeling. I know how you feel, I’ve been there myself. Now, let’s take a look at what’s really going on, and how you can easily destroy you lack of self-confidence forever.

What you really mean when you say “I’m not confident” is “I’m uncertain”.

You see, certainty is a one of the 6 human needs we all MUST have in order to live well and perform functionally. When it’s absent, all kinds of weird crap goes on in our head (including lack of self-confidence).

You’re uncertain of what’s going to happen in your next game. You’re uncertain whether you’re going to make your next shot. You’re uncertain about making the basketball team. You’re uncertain about making the right play.

You see, all a lack of self-confidence really is, is a lack of certainty. Here’s a real life example:

If you take a look at where you are right now, while your reading this article, look at the roof over your head. You’re absolutely certain that the roof above your head is not going to cave in. Your certain that it’s not going to crumble or fall. You’re certain that you are safe.

If you weren’t certain about the roof above your head, would you ever go near it? Would you ever walk under it? Would you ever put your bed under it?

I didn’t think so.

The same rules apply with you and your basketball game. Your lack of self-confidence is really just a lack of certainty. The only reason why you hold yourself back is because you lack certainty. Lack of certainty is the only reason why you’re not the basketball player you want to be.

Okay, so we’ve identified the problem, that’s good, but it doesn’t produce change. Only the solution produces change. Let’s look at at the real solution to destroying your fear and lack of self-confidence once and for all.

First, don’t’ take your lack of uncertainty personal. It has nothing to do with you. It has everything to do with your future. Your future is always unknown. It’s always uncertain. The only reason why you lack self confidence on the basketball court is because you’re focusing your thoughts on your fears. You’re thinking about what you don’t want to happen.

But it’s not personal. Brush it off and say, “I’m uncertain of what’s going to happen tomorrow, I’m going to do my best and go after my dream anyway.”

Second, stop focusing on what it is you fear. Fear Stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. Having your mind focused on your fear is the fastest way to develop lack of self-confidence. There’s a success saying that goes a little something like this, “You become what you think about.”

If you don’t believe that, go take a look in the mirror and see if everything you think you are is reflected back to you. How you think you look. What you believe. You literarily become what you think about.

You see, the mind is a goal striving mechanism, what you think about you bring about. What you focus on becomes your reality. What you believe becomes true. What you pay attention to becomes important and intensified.

Third, lower the intensity in your mind of how important producing whatever result it is you want to produce on the basketball court. Ask yourself, “From a 1 to a 10, how important is it that I do________”. If you are lacking self-confidence I’m sure that number is at least a 7 or higher.

How much would you think about it if it were only a 3 or lower? Would you still be afraid of messing up or making a mistake?

Nope, you wouldn’t care. And that’s the attitude you have to take. You have to know exactly what it is you want. Seriously committing yourself to getting what you want. Work your tail off and learn the secrets and tips others have used before you to create a similar result. And give it your best when your number is called and an opportunity is presented.

But, with the understanding, while in pursuit of your dream, you are going to make mistakes. They are inevitable. You are going to mess up. Don’t take your failures or mistakes personally. A mistake is a teacher. A mistake is a learning experience.

When you make the mistake or you mess up, recognize it, don’t take it personally, and understand the correction you need to make to guarantee you never do it again. Mistakes are not bad, but making the same mistake over and over is mental suicide.

My last suggestion for you is to stop comparing yourself, your talent, and where you are right now in your career with others. When most ballers feel inadequate or lack self-confidence, self-comparison with other players usually is lurking around. It’s a dream destroyer.

The only person you need approval from is yourself. Now if you live with your parents, there are some rules I’m sure you have to live by, but by all means don’t seek approval from anybody else. And never compare yourself to other basketball players. You have no idea how long they’ve been playing. How much training they’ve had, how many hours a week they spend working on their game, or who they’ve learned from and been coached by.

Comparing yourself is ridiculous. It will not make you better. If you want to make a goal to get to the level of play that another player is playing at, by all means, go right ahead. To pick another player as a target and say you want to be better, or as good as him or her, is healthy. But comparing your game and talent with another player is disastrous.
Don’t do it.

I’ve just shared with you some of the secrets I’ve used to transform ball players so that they can achieve their goals of being an all-star and playing college ball. The secrets I just revealed are easy and simple. Don’t take them for granted. Anything complicated is normally to hard to incorporate. It’s the simple secrets that produce an incredible change in your game.

It’s every pitcher’s nightmare. It’s the championship game, everyone is watching you. Your team is counting on you. How will you perform? Here are some helpful tips to help with your pitching performance.

Steps

Don’t be distressed in the time leading up to the game. Keep your head, and don’t start sweating.

Remember, the starting pitcher for the other team is JUST as scared as you are. If you can conquer your fear before he does, you have a excellent chance to do well.

When you’re driving to your game, warming up or practicing, take deep breaths. Don’t get over concerned while you watch the other team take batting practice. KEEP YOUR HEAD!

As a pitcher, this cannot be stressed enough. Remember that you are the boss. You have control of the ball. Be confident! You have control over whether or not that team gets a hit.

If you start getting in a jam, or it’s a close game and you’re starting to get wild, call time, get your catcher out there, and just talk with him for a minute. Don’t think about your next pitch. Think about relaxing for a second. Meanwhile, that batter is standing there, and if you’re lucky. He is over-thinking about the upcoming pitches.

Keep composure on the mound. You’re the boss, remember? If that batter sees you getting all irritated or hot about a bad call, he’ll most definitely have more confidence. Once you can learn to move on and keep your cool, the closer you are to becoming an effective pitcher.

Don’t blame yourself. Last but not least, if you end up losing the game, don’t get all depressed and put all the blame on yourself. You win as a team and lose as a team. If your defense was sloppy, so what?! If the bats weren’t swinging good enough, so what?! You have to move on. Every pitcher has bad days, but one of the things that makes you a good pitcher is the ability to move on.

Tips

If you end up losing, don’t toss your glove at the umpire and yell in his face. Umpiring is one of the hardest things to do in baseball. By the way, he might be bigger than you, so don’t tick him off too bad!

This drill is intended to develop proper plate approach and the ability to formulate an effective batting strategy. The equipment required for this drill are bats, a helmets, and balls. This drill can also be performed with whiffle balls. For purposes of this drill, the player must be familiar with approach and hitting zones.

This is actually more like batting practice than an actual drill, and it is focused on developing a player’s approach to the plate. It starts with the pitcher close enough to the batter to have better control over the direction of the ball. The ball will be thrown 10 times for each player, with the number of strikes before stepping to the plate being announced beforehand. Each batter will have to adjust their approach depending on this strike count.

If 0 strikes are announced, the batter will hold the bat out, showing the pitcher where they would like to have the ball thrown. The number of swings that a batter has left will be determined by whether or not he swings at the ball inside or outside his hitting zone.

If only 1 strike is announced, the player’s cut is reduced by 1 each time he or she swings at a strike. If the batter swings at a pitch that goes outside the strike zone, he or she gets a penalty pitch.

If 2 strikes are announced, the batter gets a pitch penalty for every miss that falls out of the strike zone. A borderline pitch that is missed results in yet another pitch penalty. Failing to hit a strike will end the batter’s turn.

If you are interested in developing correct hip rotation as a means to enhance your swing and maintain good balance, this drill can be helpful. This drill is best performed with a bat and a helmet, although you can certainly do without them in a group practice situation.

The drill begins with the batter placing the bat behind the back, pinning it between the lower arms and the biceps, with the bat’s barrel towards the catcher. The player then assumes the normal batting stance, keeping the bat in the same locked position the entire time. With the designated pitcher winding up and delivering an imaginary throw, and the coach shouting out whether the pitch is inside or outside, the batter then goes through the normal coil and stride movements, rotating his hips as well. On an inside pitch, this rotation will be slightly wider than it would be for an outside pitch. Throughout this motion, the player should make sure that it is the back hip that is powering the movement. The coach must make sure that the player is actually rotating as opposed to moving forward to the pitcher, as many players tend to do. While the player’s weight should be transferred slightly with this movement, the hind foot should remain flat on the ground the entire time.

In this drill, the coach should make sure that the player’s hips rotate on a smooth and even plane. The player should not lean forward or move back, and maintain balance the entire time. The rotation should pivot on the back foot to ensure proper form, and the movement should end with the player standing solidly on his or her front leg. Coaches should instruct players to keep from bending the knee to maintain proper balance. The head should also stay at the same height throughout the course of the movement.

This drill is intended to help batters develop the ability to hit both inside and outside pitches and at the same time, maintain the proper stride position and motion. This drill requires the use of a bat, a helmet, 2 batting tees, and baseballs.

This drill can either be done as a form of batting practice or as an essential aid in developing proper defensive techniques. It begins with the baseball tee being set up to approximate an inside pitch–that is towards the front and inside of the plate. The second tee is then set up to approximate an outside pitch, or towards the middle and to the outside of the plate. Make sure that the height of the tee that represents the inside pitch tee is lower than the tee that represents the outside pitch. Place a ball on each of these tees, and have the batter stride while you call out each pitch as inside or outside. The batter will then have to swing at the ball in the appropriate location.

It is important to make sure that the calls are made after the stride in order to train the batter into making a decision quickly and instinctively, without too much time spent on thinking.

This drill aims to teach batters the important skill of being able to hit the ball in all directions on the field. In addition, this will also develop in batters the ability to quickly recognize in which direction a pitch is going.

For this drill, you will need a bat, a helmet, any type of protective screen for the pitcher, two practice cones, and a bit of colored tape. This drill can be performed during training, and it may be done as individual or group competitions between players.

The drill begins with both cones being placed on the edge of the outfield grass, with on of them right behind where the shortstop would normally be, and the other behind second base. This effectively splits up the playing field into 3 distinct areas. You then use the tape to mark out 3 equal sections on the home plate. Position the pitcher behind the screen in a spot where he can maintain proper control over the direction of the pitch.

With each pitch that is thrown, the batter should call out the direction the ball is going to, immediately before the swing. The pitcher will be in the best position to see if the batter is conscious of where the strike zone is, and whether the right calls where made prior to the hit. The tape on the home plate will help the pitcher judge the accuracy of the batter’s hit.
