Working On Your Stride

» Added March 12, 2009 by admin

The purpose of this agility drill is to help you to target specific areas of your stride and improve on them. For this drill, all you will need is a bat and a helmet, although in a group baseball drill or agility drill, this can be done without the use of either piece of equipment.

The drill begins with each player standing in the proper position. The coach or whoever is designated the pitcher will then windup and throw an imaginary ball. Each batter then coils, strides, and finally freezes.

For the purposes of this agility baseball drill, it is important for the coach to make sure that most of the player’s weight rests towards the back, and that he or she does not lunge forward. The player’s hands should remain towards the back of the body as well and then dropped at the completion of the movement. The coach should also make sure that the player’s body retains the same alignment throughout the movement, and that he or she does not bend over from the waist or the knees. The player’s head should also be at roughly the same height as when he or she began the movement.

The agility baseball drill can be repeated as often as necessary to develop proper striding.
